A little bit about me...
If you've read my memoir, 'Forgetting Andrew , you'll already know a lot about me, though you might not realize it. I was born at the end of the post-WWII era, surrounded by folks who'd returned from that war with a clear picture of what their 'American Dream' would look like.
All of the television of those years reflected those ideals as what families should look like. Needless to say, many children who grew up in that time had conflicted experiences based on one of the most complex 'fairy tales' ever told. That fantasy soon became tinged with overtones of the real world's evolution into change. Civil Rights, Women's Rights and the Vietnam war came into our living rooms on the evening news and our vision for that perfect dream began to change. In my writing I explore how those years informed a generation, and how we wander and find our way as humans. In my 60 plus years on the planet, I've seen the world and my place in it change dramatically, and I've sampled a tiny bit of the world on my journey amidst those changes. And how they changed our ideas of what we would do with our lives.
I grew up in the steel-town days of Pittsburgh, when it was a grimy hub of industry and burgeoning commerce. I spent my young adult years in southern Florida, moving later to Arizona where I'd spend what would feel like 40 years in the desert but would actually be more like 25. After raising two lovely kids on my own, the work that sustained us through those years suddenly offered an opportunity too good to resist. A chance to move to London, which was meant to be just a year, and turned into 6! As I navigated this crazy life, I've made my way as an artist, writer, corporate craftsman, and coach. I studied with amazing teachers, including the magical Martha Beck, whose work led me to the life coaching I do now and which enables me to spend most of my days ...you guessed it - writing.
Since 2020, I make my home in Italy - but on what was meant to be a short visit to the US to see my family and friends... well, you know what happened. So for 18 months, I sheltered in a rental near my kids in Arizona, on my own. And all that time gave me what I needed- as life always does. An idea for a work of complete fiction. And the time to write that book, which is now in the process of final edit and a search for an agent.
A writer observes the world through a very personal lens and then tells the stories that collect in their minds and hearts. I find that world glorious, funny, strange and sometimes heartbreaking.
I hope you find a little bit of all of this my work.
